The end of May/ beginning of June

I finished the Bible! I would read in my King James Version, then I would read the same verses in the ESV, and then I would read the study notes and make notes in my KJV. So basically over the past year I read the Bible twice. It was a life-altering experience for me and has enriched my life in every way possible. I am now reading it from the beginning again with my new John MacArthur Bible commentary.

These were my favorite books I read in May:

We found out we have clover mites outside and in the windows, so I spent an entire day deep cleaning all of the windows in the house and spraying them. Maddy asked how she could help, so she went before me dusting all of the blinds.

We watch Road to Avonlea every Sunday night while the girls draw and I cross-stitch (usually). We also spent the last few Sundays watching Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea.

Maddy and I went to the craft store to find a frame for the painting she gave me for Mother's Day. I love seeing it on my desk every day.

We wrapped up our paleontology unit in school. The last activity was a cookie excavating. Maddy was very precise with it. Abi was messy.

Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Another exciting thing that happened in May was the release of the new Zelda game. Doug and the girls have been waiting for this for years, literally.

We finished school before it was set to get here and Doug went to the store and bought a bunch of treats. Maddy made a small stuffed animal a guardians costume.

I made them pose with the game before beginning play. They all want to play it eventually, but decided to let Abi play it through first while watching since she is the most into it. It took a couple of weeks to finish it, but there are a lot of side quests that will be worked on for the foreseeable future. She mainly did the main quest/storyline to completion. They played most of the weekend (Abi has a rule for herself that she doesn't play video games on Sunday) and then after that Abi would do smaller things while Doug was at work and then do the big things and most of the main play once Doug got home.

Mother's Day

A few days before Mother's Day, we hosted a little Mother's Day Tea with my mom. I made raspberry lemonade and Anne's Liniment Cake (from the Anne of Green Gables cookbook). The table was decorated with my new tea cups, some Bible promises books I bought for my mom and I, the flowers my sister had brought me a few days before, and the gifts we had for my mom.

Our dining area is kind of a crowded mess right now until the basement is finished, so we tried our best to make this little spot beautiful for the occasion.

The girls each drew a card for my mom and I gave her a card and a book. (In addition the Bible Promises book)

Abi gave me a card too. My mom gave me a card and a book that I have been wanting.

A few days later we celebrated Mother's Day with a quiet day at home. I left out my things from the tea party, but I got a few new things as well. I got the Bronte themed puzzle, two small bookish candles, a larger Avonlea themed candle, and Maddy made me a comic strip and a beautiful watercolor painting of Peggy's Cove.

Utah Christian Homeschoolers Convention

I recently found out that there is a community of Utah Evangelical Christians that meet and do activities as well as a graduation. They were doing a convention in Draper, so I decided to attend to see if we wanted to join the group. I met some great people and had a wonderful time. It was a truly edifying and encouraging weekend. I decided we will for sure join for the upcoming school year. It will also give Abi the opportunity of a graduation ceremony.
