I have wanted to go to Comic Con in San Diego for years.
And then Salt Lake City started having their own Comic Con.
I have wanted to try it out but just hadn't done it yet.
Then one night I saw on facebook that Billie Piper (she played Rose on Doctor Who) was coming to the Comic Con FanX at the end of January. And tickets were at sale prices.
I called my mom and told her.
We started talking about the possibility of going together.
Doug thought I should. He would take off a day from work and we would go Friday and Saturday while he stayed with the girls.
Then we decided we would make a real girls time of it and get a hotel room too to save on gas and parking.
So, on Friday morning January 29th my dad dropped my mom off and we took the mini and headed downtown.
We parked the car at our hotel (too early to check in yet) and walked a couple blocks over to the Salt Palace Convention center.
We weren't sure what to expect and we definitely learned a lot but we had a great time.
We checked in first and got our goody bags and t-shirts and then decided to get in line for a panel with Christopher Lloyd.
Here we are waiting in line...
I got this picture from SLCC. This is the Salt Palace.
And this guy was the host in many of our panels.
Christopher Lloyd!
His panel was very fun and interesting and a great way to start our experience.
After his panel we decided to walk around and get the lay of the land.
It was INSANELY crowded and honestly pretty confusing.
They could really run the autograph and photo op lines a lot smoother.. but I have nothing to compare it to so maybe all of these things tend to be disorganized.
We found the DeLorean while we were wandering.
Then we did something I was really excited about!
Nicolas Brendan played Xander on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
He was there meeting and signing for free.
I had a major fan girl moment. I imagined my teenage self high fiving me.
When I got up to him I told him he was my favorite character on Buffy.
And he said, "Well, you're my favorite person in the whole world. So put that in your pipe and smoke it."
He was so funny and nice and it was such a joy to meet him.
He came around the table to give us both hugs.
My mom has only watched a couple of episodes of Buffy with me but she was impressed by him too.
And then we got our picture with him.
By this time we needed to head over to our photo op with Billie!
We also had purchased an autograph with Matt Smith once we found out he was going to be there but he was signing at the same time we needed to get in line for her.
So we went to her line first since it was the only time period we could get photo ops.
I hate the picture of me so bad. I was standing funny and had my head tilted back funny... but who cares! We are with Rose!
You are pretty rushed through these things but you still get a feel for the person.
We could tell she was tired but she was very friendly and sweet.
So then we went back to Matt Smith's autograph line.
There was only one more time period he would be signing and he wouldn't be back the next day so we knew we had to get in this line if we wanted to get what we paid for.
So even though it was a couple hours away, we sat down at almost the front of the line and waited.
Just like in line for Billie, we actually made a friend and talked most of the time.
When Matt finally came out, we were all so pumped!
Here are some pics of him signing from SLCC.
While standing in line I could see Mark Pellegrino right there next to us. (A lot of you may know him from Supernatural but I know him from Lost) Hard to see him..
A little bummed he couldn't personalize but there were a lot of people there and it was his only day at fanx so they had to get us through fast.
I was a bit shell shocked when I first met him.
But he was SO nice.
Afterward we rushed over the Doctor Who Experience panel but I will write about that more in the next post.
For now I will post the things we did right after the panel.
Ran into a creepy weeping angel.
And got pictures of us in the Tardis!
and got pictures of us with some angels. Although I have no idea what we were doing. I guess I was trying to sneak up on it? Haha.

What a great day! Rose was my absolute favorite. I'm just certain we could be best friends. :)
Looks like a great time with your Mom. I'm so glad you get to spend more time with her. I know you two are such good friends. Miss you here. But glad you're in a great place.
